ESP Education and Training Committee

ESP has always devoted great attention to educational issues. This attention gained a definite structure in 1999 after the Congress in Granada, when the Education and Training Committee (ETC) was established. The main purpose of the ETC activities is to promote photobiology among young ESP Members by some specific instruments.

Students, post-docs and early stage researchers are encouraged to join the vibrant and stimulating community of photobiologists through specific calls issued by ESP for:

  • Providing fellowships to young members for attending the congresses and the Photobiology School organised by the European Society for Photobiology.
  • Providing travel fellowship for attending international conferences, summer schools, and congresses on the different areas of photobiology. This instrument is implemented in even years
  • Selecting a young scientist (under age 35) conducting original research of exceptionally high quality in fields related to photobiology for the Young Investigator Award. The award ceremony is held during the ESP congress, where the awardee gives a plenary lecture.
  • Awarding the Giulio Jori Research Scholarship to a research career in photobiology for young scientists.
  • Issuing the ESP Supplement to the PhD Degree to give professional recognition to higher education in Photobiology.
